I hate tornadoes!

I have had a deathly fear of them for as long as I can remember. I have always said I will NEVER live somewhere that gets tornadoes. I would see the distruction they cause on the news, safe in my home in California and I just couldn't imagine how anyone could live somewhere that had such violent weather. Turns out I moved to Tennessee. I realize now why people live here, it is a beautiful place, the middle of the country, but it sure is scary. We have been so lucky not to have any serious tornadoes in the few months we have been here but every time the skies turn gray I start to worry.

My mom's best friend from childhood lives in Oklahoma, with her four adult daughters and many, many grandchildren. Any time a tornado breaks out in that state I think of them. I am thankful the people I know aren't near Moore, Oklahoma.

This morning I wanted to keep the girls home from school. There probably won't be any tornadoes here today, just a chance of thunderstorms, but it seems as though the tornado threat will miss us. Even so, I was scared to put my kids on that bus this morning. This has been one of my biggest fears, sending them to school and a tornado coming. I worry that the school will be hit while the girls are there. I also worry that they will be safe at school but the rest of us at home won't make it! Either thought breaks my heart. I heard a little boy on the news, he made it out of his school alive but hasn't seen his parents yet. He was hoping they were still alive. What a sad thing for a kid to have to worry about. Luckily, the news reported that his parents were alive!

Nature is an amazing beast. It breaks my heart to see how powerful and devastating nature can be!

My heart goes out to everyone in Oklahoma!! I cannot imagine what the community is going through! I will hug my girls extra tight when they get off that school bus today. I will try hard to keep them from freaking out about this, as I try hard to hold in my emotions about the whole thing!

I am thankful that we are safe! Watching the devastation on the news does make me want to run back to California where I only need to worry about the occasional earthquake!
