Our Travels

I started this blog as a way to document our travels and for our friends and family to follow along with us. We set out to travel the USA on October 14, 2012 and the trip will officially end on December 30, 2012. Our plan was to visit as many states as possible in a six month to one year time frame. We also wanted to find a new place to call home. Things didn't go exactly as planned and our trip is ending early but we still did find the place we want to call home.

We visited 10 states on the RV trip. And, while on the trip we learned that so much of this country is truly stunning. Even places I didn't expect to be anything special turned out to be wonderful! Our trip started in California and we have visited Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi. One of my favorite places was Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas. I also LOVED Austin, Texas. And, I would have never expected to love Chicot State Park in Louisiana. Oh, and who could forget the best Halloween we'd ever had at Padre Island. Honestly, I loved everywhere we went, some less than others (New Mexico?) but each place we have visited has brought us fun and adventure. Rob drove us over 3,750 miles for a total of over 60 hours of driving. We love him for driving us to all of these wonderful places!

Our journey of leaving everything behind and traveling was inspired by our trip to Arches National Park in Utah and Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. In May of 2012 we took a camping trip to both places. That trip took us to Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and South Dakota. It was on this trip that we fell in love with traveling and camping. It was our first camping trip as a family and the first time our kids had ever slept in a tent. When walking around the campground in South Dakota we all said we wished we had an RV and could travel the country. We went home and went back to normal life, until a few months later when we started to put the dream to reality.

    1. We loved Petit Jean, it was probably our second favorite place we've been so far. I couldn't believe how beautiful Arkansas was! I hope to visit the state again soon!
